i really appreciate the three examples Megan gave of the work done in a mental health hospital for kids. the reconnection with a good memory from their life gave them a clearer sense of reality and connectedness to the world in the present. it created a dramatic lurch effect.
quite amazing, really. we hear much talk about revisiting hurtful memories and working through the pain to come to a place of peace. rehearsing good things is something we can all do and i certainly practice regularly. savoring a good memory (plenty of beach stories) and how it felt and what i was sensing during that time.
appreciation, thankfulness, celebration are concepts to be cultivated. they each have a dramatic effect on the brain.
Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart.
