for they draw from the wealth of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand. Deuteronomy 33

for they draw from the wealth of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand. Deuteronomy 33

Lord, you alone have the power to forgive, to lift off the burden of guilt, the burden of all sin, rebellion and iniquity not only for us but for those in our generational lines.

The family tree can be a twisted one full of corruption, malice and deceit. It can leave a wake of devastation on all the lives on which it has fallen. It can fall as a weight from which there is no reprieve.

Yet you have said in your word that there comes a time when your wrath is turned away and you establish an end to our punishment. I am asking for that now, where work has been done, where investment has been made. Where the cost has been high.

For we have been born out of your suffering side and have shared the guilt and shame of a people. We have experienced their grief. You have carried it all to the cross, nailing it there for all time. Will you not lift off this burden from a history past and into the future generations.

I appeal to the God of vindication, who has never once turned a blind eye. Who never once turned a deaf ear to the cries of his people. Who was rather moved by the intense emotion of compassion for us and rage of anger at your enemy for the evil that has ensued over many a year.

How long, O Lord? It is time for you to act. Arise, and take your rightful place, upon your throne of mercy and grace. Pronounce your judgment, let your glory be shown, till all the earth bows before your throne.

Bring to bear your finest compensation, as we walk in your forgiveness. May you give us gladness in proportion to the years we have been afflicted, experiencing the blessings like a river flowing thru our family line.

If there was a pool of toxic waste then surely there is a treasure? Surely there IS a treasure. Unstop the wells and let the treasure hidden in darkness arise. The treasure the enemy went to great pains to hide.

May we have ample time to unpack all that is there. Sorrow turns to joy. Mourning to dancing. Never ending. Redeeming, restoring, reclaiming.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. For he is from eternity past and will remain for the eternity to come. Faithful is our King!

Standing With You

Sometimes you are unable to see what is really going on when you are in a hard place. Sometimes life sidelines you and what just happened, you didn't see coming and you stand there wondering how you are going to get through this?

Here are some snippets to keep you going. Can you relate to any?

David was surprised by joy when he was seen by God after years of being ignored by leaders around him.

After a long season of futility, Naomi experienced the joy of making progress in life

In spite of a monumental bad choice on his part, Jonah tasted the joy of being used by God powerfully.

The joy of a transplant enabled Gomer to receive the love extended to her.

In the place of a former devastating defeat, Gideon experienced the joy of a decisive victory.

Samuel was fully recognised as a wonderful fit for the office he held.

Noah’s joy came after a very difficult season of judgment.

Phinehas experienced the joy of God accepting his passion and calling it good.

Jacob found true love, in an alien country and he also through repeated miracles, experienced the provision of God, in spite of a very unjust environment to work in.

I bless you whether you have the fierceness of Phineas in wanting to honour God, or the patience of Noah following orders and waiting for a very long time.

I bless you with being surprised by joy and not giving up on the hope that is sure to come. We are called to rise and I bless you with rising up of defiant faith amid adversity.

I bless you with rising up for yourself and others, knowing God is faithful.

Messing up or having been messed with, I bless you with finding your way forward.

Living in a hostile environment? I bless you with the spirit of Jacob.

Together there is a rising up and together there is a place to stand.

I bless you in Jesus name.

just stand

and who can forget Job. when he thought he was walking in obedience, blessings and favour he gets sidelined with no explanation. the season he thought he was in suddenly changed colour and shape and all he could was sit and wait
and wait..

sometimes its a timing thing, a bigger picture thing,
like the rainbow that just appeared outside my window, there's no explanation here and now when we want it,
it just is.

we rise
by: Anonymous

yes, yes. we can learn from so many of those whose stories we tell and we each have our own, to own and validate. the good, bad and the ugly. all redeemable. all for his glory, we continually rise out of the ash heap and see what once was is being transformed somehow, some way.

he who bears the weight of suffering will bear the weight of glory ~

thank you!

no wasted pain
by: Sheila

Interesting - not specifically recognizing any of the mentioned hard spots, yet my spirit reacted deeply to this post, sensing the hand of God healing. How awesome that God knew what I needed even though I did not!

yes, Sheila
by: LOIS

your comment gives me the feeling of how much God is up to always in our lives, even when we don't have the language for what he is doing. so glad it resonated with you.

i am so thankful for that spirit led walk, where perhaps as you mentioned, nothing we can see is meant for us here but our spirit knows something we don't and says, 'let's camp here awhile.' and always so glad i did.

thanks for sharing that.

I am constantly amazed at how those who never gave up in the midst of decades of toil, trouble and pain (physical and emotional) we finally rewarded for their tenacity in hanging onto hope. God is as concerned with justice and He is with Mercy.

well said, Jim. it always points me to the resilience he has put into us, not to take away a thread of dignity to those who gave up.

the fight can be brutal. mercy and justice keep kissing each other. thank you for your thoughts.

what is in your toolbox for grounding?

what is in your toolbox for grounding?

How grounded are you when things yank your soul?

How grounded are you when the environment around you is unstable?

Can your spirit hold you stable and solid when your soul is NOT ok?

What is in your toolbox for grounding?

I am learning how important and beneficial grounding is in the natural. There has been more and more evidence why the beach has healing properties other than its aesthetic beauty. Humour me, the beach is my happy place.

* beaches have an impact on our mental health helping us to unwind and recharge.

* the air is charged with healthy negative ions that help to put us at ease. these negative ions balance serotonin levels producing a natural antidepressant effect.

* walking barefoot on the sand absorbs the free ions in the earth helping us to feel grounded.

* there are high minerals in the water; magnesium, potassium, iodine helping us fight infection, heal and detoxify.

* swimming and other water sport decreases anxiety and depression and helps with chronic illness.

What this says to me is that God has put in the earth ways for us to heal. There is so much more to explore and discover and it excites me to the core.

When I think of what is inside my toolbox for grounding, I think outside the box. God has strategically placed me close to the beach knowing how much this environment would bring me healing. Especially having lived in a very hostile environment.

As well as the natural benefits noted above, the ocean has immersed and imprinted upon my spirit, beauty. This is a major tool in my toolkit. It is like a transfusion from spirit to soul on a regular basis. It is one of many tools.

Can you share something that keeps you grounded or that you are exploring?

I bless you with fresh eyes to see the resources the Father has prepared for you as an anchor when the environment around you is unstable. He is the rock and is far better at equipping us to stand even when the ground below us is shaking.

Solid rock?
by: Joan

Remembering words from long ago,
'On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.'
... and I ponder.

Solidity of the Rock... yay! THE ROCK!

But, who made the sand that sinks and shifts, making lovely squeaky sounds as it squeezes between our toes?
Of course I'm thinking of the lovely white beach sand of my home coastline, sea-washed and mineral-rich... and endowed with that voice to sing as we walk on its dry saltiness!

That soft sand and I have been distant for a long time because my knees protest too much, but my spirit yearns for it! There is a plan B though! The sound of the seashore is an on-ramp to God as well! Amazing isn't it!

There is a particular beach about two hours away that draws me at times for that re-charging! All the 'S's, Sea Song, Surf Sounds, Singing Squeaky Sand (from others), Sunrises, Sunsets... and somehow I'm renewed and refilled with another dose of AWE of my God. Anticipating, celebrating and recalling these spirit joys is one way I am re-grounded!

Then there is that amazing verse of Ephesians 6 verse 13 where it speaks of being able to stand our ground when all seems lost-- and we have pulled every tool out of our toolbox to no avail. We are exhorted to STAND! Standing as tall as we can manage... but STAND!

Yes to stand on that two square feet of solid ground that is in reality, the ROCK of the solid foundational strength of the Word!

You know, when we have done our 'all', He is there for us! Isn't that neat!

Two of my tools! The Rock, and His sand!

thank you, Joan. that having done all, STAND, is a place of dignity for me as well. God knows all we have done (even if no one else does) and he stands with us in our most dire times of trial.

glad we share our ocean experiences. a kindred spirit indeed.

and thank you for the beach info you sent that i used here!

Jetty cusp
by: Emilie

The ocean is most definitely my happy place, as well. When I need to deeply connect with Father, and regenerate to face or deal with a life altering circumstance, I rock-hop out to the end of a jetty (west coast) so that there is ocean on 3 sides of me within feet, and the city seems miles away. Waves splash all around me, sometimes dolphins swim by. I sit there for an unmeasured amount of time, soaking in God's power, love, ultimate design and control, stunning creativity...breathing the truth of it all in.

wow, Emilie. i am so there. yes, it is a world unto its self and everything else does seem so far away. such an amazing source of healing. thank you for sharing this with us.

Saint Patrick's Lorica

Over the years I have come to love this powerful prayer of protection.

Also called The Cry of the Deer, this old tradition has it, that Saint Patrick and his companion missionaries were to travel to the court of King Laoghhaire.

Along the way, waiting in ambush, were druid or druid henchmen who intended to attack and kill Saint Patrick and all his followers. As Patrick and his companions walked, they chanted the Lorica.

When they passed the would-be attackers, they appeared as a doe and twenty fawns, hence the title. It is considered to reflect his theological focus on the Trinity.

St. Patrick of Ireland (fifth century)

The Prayer of Saint Patrick

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.

I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me;
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

Spirit Blessing for St Patrick’s Prayer
by: 🅱️

Thank you for posting the Prayer of St Patrick. Such wonderful meat and metaphors in there!

I took it and changed it into a blessing for the spirit. At the beginning of each stanza I invited the spirit to arise and come to the place of dominion, and then continued with the verse.

This prayer touched my heart. I plan on committing it to memory. I want to be able to declare it when I go to battle like St Patrick.

Making Headlines

NO, her healing was NOT the most important thing!

NO, her healing was NOT the most important thing!

I was meditating on the woman with the issue of blood this morning in Mark 5. Although the headline for this story reads:

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman

The emphasis was on the dead girl, that is the more important need after all, the sick woman was a secondary issue.

When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought,

“If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”

Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

At once Jesus realised that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

12 years of suffering!

Yes, I can relate.

She hears of Jesus' healing power and she 'pushes through' the crowd to reach him.

Yes, I too have pushed through a lot of pain to seek him out.

She touches him and instantly knows she is healed. and instantly, Jesus too knows someone touched him.

I so love that correlation.

And he asks, 'Who touched me?'

Didn't he know? Yes, of course he did but then why does he ask, who are you? Where are you?

I was so touched by the idea that Jesus had a message for this woman as he does for each one of us because the most dramatic thing that happened, still has not happened yet.

NO, her healing was NOT the most important thing!

'I was the one who touched you!' she spoke up trembling with fear.

Another thing to push through- her fear!

"Daughter" Jesus begins..because you dared to believe (or push through) your faith has healed you. Go with peace in your heart and be free from your suffering.'

So what WAS the most important thing here if not her healing? What if Jesus let that moment go after all a dying child awaits him and what if she got her healing but got lost in that crowd?

It was the moment of intimacy that Jesus initiated just for this woman. He stopped everything to speak directly to her.

And to you, and to me and to ALL his daughters because although we want to fix things and relieve our pain (and rightly so) we don't want just our healing, only to be lost in the crowd.

I don't want to miss God's heart for intimacy. 12 years on..

She was stretched and so are you and so am I. We are ALL stretched!

I bless you, Daughters, to push through, for the joy set before you, knowing he is with you and can and will speak a word that changes everything. Do not lose heart. You are amazing at the perseverance shown with the hard road you have walked and continue to do so AND be life-giving!

I ask that the miracle of this woman will also be our miracle.

You can reach down into us all in a variegated way and touch us in our deepest time of need. Do so now, I ask in your name.

Not just healing...
by: D.

AMEN - not just healing... but close connection and intimacy with The One. The true treasure.

mmmm so interesting... the more I meditate on this the more He reveals.. the healing seems secondary... the questions 'who are you', 'where are you' remind me of Father's questions in the garden... He knew full well where Adam was as did Jesus already know the woman... so what does He want from us ... what answer does He want from us... 'I am she whom you love?'.....He's a good good Father.. that's who He is that's who HE is.. and I am loved by You, that's who I am, that's who I am'... that's all that matters... everything else in this world here and now is secondary

As I re-read thispersonal story of yours Lois, I somehow found myself in the fragile trembling skin of that woman with the issue of blood…
I could feel the overwhelming ache of one who'd just summoned every last scrap of strength to reach out to touch... Yes, to actually touch any part of anyone's garment was forbidden... tallit, cloak, shirt, whatever... because... well, because all these twelve years it was like I’d has been 'unclean' myself... I was like, by the Law itself, so totally excluded from being touched by anyone… all those lonely, dirty years while I had that bloody issue, the bleeding from my private parts that never truly stopped… lest anyone be contaminated! I was legally unclean! And now, since I’d been drawn by a hope in this Man I’d been hearing about… trying to play invisible, skirting round the crowd… watching… dodging… weaving… crawling in the dust between their ever-moving legs… where I shouldn't be.
Maybe… just maybe, I could touch this Man's clothes! His tallit… Yes, His tallit!
Just maybe I could be made whole…
And now, He’s asking "Who touched me?"
Yes, he asked… and waited and waited… I was hardly able to breathe!
"Yes," I 'fessed up! "I touched you!"
They moved back… And now everyone could see and hear me... prostrate with quivering shame...
And then he spoke...
The gentlest, most loving, healing word I’d heard in many a year!
Daughter... relationship... acceptance... gentleness... love...
Twelve years of isolation, aloneness and shame were being wiped away! Healing balm!
Daughter! I was a person… identity!
I gathered my trembling legs up from the hard earth
Daughter! I had a right to be… legitimacy!
Here I was, sort of standing in the middle of this circle of loose-packed, questioning, straining bodies that had made room for me… and Him.
Daughter! Took a deep breath as I looked into His eyes… He was giving me another treasure! The glorious tingling as it rippled all the way down to my now firmly planted feet! Dignity!
I was standing as tall as I could… with dignity
And to sweetly seal it…
"Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
And I was!

Hidden Treasure
by: Betty

Lois, I love this article! I love what you noticed that I never saw before. His giving her intimacy was such a precious gift, as it is for all of us. I was just thinking about how she had been shunned because she was unclean due to the issue of blood.
She had been a social outcast for so many long lonely years. So that gift that Jesus gave her was all the more exquisitely beautiful and strategic because of her situation. He gave her dignity and honor along with the intimacy and healing. That was more than she could even have imagined. Thank you for peering deeper into this familiar story and bringing out a hidden treasure!!
